Finding Inspiration

It's the end of the week. You're with one of your last guests of the day. You can't wait to put your feet up and start a new Netflix binge worthy show. Sometimes a little chill time (and maybe a glass of wine) is all you need to recharge. SOMETIMES though you need more before you head back to the salon for a busy week.

It is so hard to do what we do and not feel inspired while doing it!...that made sense right? Hah! Guests look to us for what's new, what's current, how can we make them feel trendy or just updated? As stylist, makeup artist, nail techs and everything in between, a lack of fresh ideas can really show in our work. It doesn't have to be anything major, but sometimes re-imagining a classic cut or trying a new lip color is all the change someone might need.

SO how do we stay current and creative? Where does this flow of inspiration come from? We are lucky in our industry to have endless images, classes and seminars available to us. Sometimes though, I like to find my next idea in unconventional spots. Below are some ideas I hope help you think outside the box and come up with your next big idea for behind the chair.

Visit an art or history museum. The colors, photography, paintings, all of it is inspiring! Challenge yourself to take away one new idea with you. If it is on your mind to find something you definitely will.

Host a photo shoot. No matter how big or small your salon may be this is always a great way to get in a creative mindset. It doesn't have to be for anything specific. Open it to whoever would like to participate in your salon, find a few models and a photographer. It is a great way to bond with your team as well!

Get out in nature. There are so many amazing colors in nature (just look at the sunset in the image below!) I could never imagine or would never put together on my own. When I see them in a natural setting though it's usually a light bulb moment. Like why did I not think of that!? Not to mention being outside is such a great stress reliever. Go for a walk, visit a farmers market (so much color inspo), observe the changing seasons.

I hope these ideas help help give you your next light bulb moment!

XOXO
