You are What You Eat!

Image
Have you ever heard the saying, “you are what you eat?” Well, if you haven’t… now you have! This saying not only applies to your overall health and nutrition, but to how your skin looks and feels as well. As the largest organ in the body, your skin can benefit from the same nutrition you get from different food groups that have a positive effect on your heart health and other organs. Crazy, right?!
Good nutrition is key when it comes to having a happy heart and healthy lifestyle. Instead of constantly being on the latest fad or “quick fix” diet, focus on finding a lifelong, realistic approach to healthy eating, and eat with joy, flexibility, and, most importantly, balance. Instead of cutting out pizza completely, make homemade cauliflower crust with fresh vegetables as toppings. Are you craving something extra sweet for dessert? Make a “chocolate shake” using Shakeology and add a few of your favorite sprinkles. Are you thinking of having a burger and fries for dinner? Make your burger …

Professionalism behind the chair

This is a topic that has been on my mind lately when thinking about guest care. One thing guests search for in a salon environment is professionalism. A professional atmosphere can help someone feel comfortable and at ease. Maintaining a professional salon does not mean it won't be a fun! It will be because you work there! Here are a few tips on setting the right vibe at your salon.

Conversation. One simple thing I learned at the beginning of my career is always keep the conversation guest focused. Don't get me wrong I'm sure they enjoy hearing about what's going on in your life too, but that time is really about them and their hair.

Clothing and appearance. We are lucky to work in an industry where you can express your personal style. So whatever that look may be, present the best version of yourself. After a while coloring my bleach stains in with a sharpie, just doesn't cut it! Haha!

Keep a clean and organized station and salon. First impressions are everything! If…

I can’t believe February is over, and we are also (almost) all the way through winter. I don’t know about you, but so far, the year has been flying by. I don’t want to finish out the month without channeling our attention towards one of the most IMPORTANT months of the year — February! Why is February so important you might ask?! February is American Heart Month, and we use this month to raise awareness about heart disease and the many ways you can help yourself, friends, family, and the community with fighting for their health.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Every year, 1 in 4 lives are faced with death because of it. Heart disease has affected all of us in some way, shape or form, and it is important to know that there are things you and your family can do to help prevent heart disease and make healthy, lifelong choices!
Here are THREE very important tips to keep your healthy lifestyle in check and your heart health strong!

Stay healthy during cold season!

Cold and flu season is here! Working closely with so many people, it can be a challenge to avoid getting sick this time of year. Below are a few tips to help you stay healthy this winter. Keeping healthy is so important because, if we are not behind the chair, we are not making money!

Wash your hands...often! Doing shampoos makes this one pretty easy, but remember to wash your hands throughout the day as well.

Clean your station at the beginning and end of your shift. Wipe down the chair and tools you used that day.

Don't touch your face. This helps with skincare too of course!

Eat healthy. Feed your body the vitamins it needs for a healthy immune system.

Get plenty of sleep. Sleep deprivation can weaken the immune system.

Relax. Do more of what helps you stress-less.

Does your salon offer airbrush makeup? We just introduced it to our list of services and have been loving it! The makeup goes on beautifully and there are so many beautiful colors and highlighters to play with. It has been a great addition to our salon services.
I wanted to do a holiday look that was natural and glowing. Perfect for parties and gatherings day or night! For this shimmery holiday look I used a mix of Temptu and Aveda makeup. Listed below are the colors I used on my beautiful model Gretta.

Temptu- Brilliant Glow in Fair as primer
Airbrush Ivory foundation
Blush-nude pink
White shimmer on cheekbones as a highlighter

Aveda- Copper Haze on eyes
Kola lip liner
Mango Juice lip glaze
